Adam's New Glider Bike

Adam was finally able to play with his new bike today. He has been working on earning it for about 3 months doing very strenuous jobs mapped out on a chore chart. Chores include eating his vegetables, picking up his toys, making his bed, etc.

Once I got home from work I asked him to show off his sweet new ride. Of course he bolted to the closet and grabbed his helmet, nice work, his mom must have taught him that, then he ran to the back yard, in his socks of course, maybe his mom taught him that too......not sure.

I was totally stoked about the bike and his mad riding skills. He, on the other hand, was more stoked about the horn.........the horn came with the helmet. So, I am posting this to show off his new bike, and Adam is posting this to show off his new horn.

Now I need to build him some jumps.

You can't share snacks with cartoons

Being a dad, I take great pleasure in passing wisdom and knowledge on to my son. Perhaps I can give him a bedrock of logic and reason with which to build his thoughts and his life.

So Adam and I were watching Despicable Me and he comes in with a handful of pretzels. "Daddy," he says, "will you do me a favor?"

"Of course, bud, what is it?"

"Will you help me put the pretzels into the TV for the minions?"

With a cute little guy standing there sincerely asking for help, the image of sticking pretzels into the monitor and seeing the minions crunching on them immediately played in my mind. I'm pretty sure Willy Wonka could do it.......but like I was saying, wisdom and knowledge, yada yada yada, "Oh, uh, Adam.....the minions are cartoons......they are not real, they are just graphics and sounds played from the DVD......plus, you can not put snacks into the TV and it would be a very bad idea to even try....... but it is very thoughtful of you to want to share with them, buddy."

He was very disappointed.

Nice! I did it.

If that's not a bedrock of logic and reason, I don't know what is.

Conversations I never thought would happen

Adam has decided to be scared of monsters and mooses. So one night after his millionth bathroom visit I hear this terrified scream. I walk in and Adam's imagination has gone wild with monsters and mooses. So I saw this idea here and I thought I would give monster repellent a try. Adam loved it. He went all out coating every surface in our house with spray. Not a good idea for me to try at night when I need him to sleep. So since I was not having any luck getting him to bed I deferred to Mike. Here is the conversation that followed.

Adam: There is a moose in there (the bathroom) wiping his bum
Mike: No there aren't any mooses in there
Adam: Yes there is, he is wiping his bum
Mike: No Adam Mosses don't go poop in the potty, they go in the woods on the grass
Adam: Oh mooses go in the grass?
Mike: Yes so there arent any mooses wiping their bums.

Just wanted to share that with you. :)

Adam Terminology

Its been a long time since I posted. So sorry. I have a ton to talk about, projects I have been working on, our staycation, and Day Camp at Sundance. Its all coming very soon. For now I thought I would share some terminology with you.
All of it is Adam's creation:

Thorn Bugs: Chocolate Chips. See actual thorn bugs here

Caterpillars: Poop (of course you already know that)

Nums: M&M's

Trees: Broccoli (fairly normal)

Rocks: Peas (Some Dinosaurs used to eat rocks to grind up food in their stomachs. I made this one up to get him to eat his peas, but it stuck)

Ghost Light: Flashlights

Lightning McQueen: any red car

Sally: any blue car

Wrestling Terms:
the one who is winning: the dominator
the one who is losing: the denominator
(Mike helped him with this one)

Green Beans: Green Green Jellybeans

Grapes or Pretzels: Pickled Peppers (if you watch Super Why its from the Hansel and Gretel Episode.)

I am sure there are more. He is so imaginative. He cracks me up daily :). Have I ever mentioned, I love being a mom?

Our congressman talking common sense.

Mike here: This is definitely worth 3 mintues of an American's time to watch. It is amazingly intuitive; if you strive to use common sense of course.

How To Make A Caterpillar

Adam is potty training like a champ! I waited until after Father's Day and all our shows with the business were done. We started Monday and so far only 3 accidents in 3 days!
Adam has been a little skittish about pooping in the potty.
Yesterday after much bribing Adam was sitting on the potty to poop while I was making dinner. All of the sudden he comes running out and says I DID IT! I went in to see and Adam said:
Look I made a caterpillar!
So there it is. Thats how to make a caterpillar. :)
I love being a mom.

This is Adam's song today.
At Wal-Mart.
At the top of his lungs.

I go to the bigger bigger slide.
Mommy says no.

La la la la
bigger bigger slide.
Mommy says no.

No Longer Wise

I had my wisdom teeth pulled on Fri. The dentist had me take pills 1 hour before my appointment to sedate me. I remember getting into the car and driving about 1/2 mile then its blank until 8 hours later. I guess I was talking and telling Adam how much I loved him. Mike said I was acting drunk.
My mom took great care of me and Adam until Mike got off work. I am so lucky to have my mom and Mike. They took great care of me. Now I am just on liquids waiting for my mouth to return to normal. :)

WARNING: If you have a weak stomach do not read.

Warning; What I am about to share with you is totally gross! Its really bad.

Tonight I got home from working an expo late. Our house stunk sooo bad. I thought it was Adam's diaper, nope. Something in the fridge? Nope. Maybe some crazy funk outside had creeped in.

So I went along my merry way until I opened up our washing machine and was hit with the full force of something very foul. I have a front loader washing machine. It has a fold where water collects and you have to wipe it out. I do it quite regularly so I was a little puzzled as to why it was stinking. But I grabbed a paper towel and in the dark wiped out the trap. It was only after I turned on the light when I was what was on the paper towel from the trap.

A dead decaying stinking earthworm! How on earth did an earthworm get inside my washing machine. I am so grossed out. But worse my mind is racing with the possibilities. Maybe I have an earthworm colony in my pipes. Maybe Adam picked it up and put it in. Maybe it hitchhiked on some clothes...GROSS!

I am running my washing machine with baking soda in it. Hopefully that will get the smell and germies out. I am going to run bleach in it next. Totally disgusting. I have no more words for it but gross!

Any thoughts on how the earthworm got in my dryer?

Visit from Nana & Papa

Mike's Parents, Cathy and Mike came to visit over Conference. It was such a blast to have them. Adam was so excited to pick them up from the airport he kept declaring every car to be Nana and Papa. We enjoyed them so much. Adam adored all the love and attention. We were all spoiled with them here. Some highlights include going to the park for a picnic lunch, going to the Garden at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and Sweet Tomatoes for my birthday, Papa and Mike fixing our water heater after a week of no hot water, Papa fixing everything around the house, watching conference, going to Sweet Tomatoes, crafts, crafts, and more crafts, and just enjoying every minute of having them here. Papa, Adam, Me, and Nana at the park. Mike was taking the picture.
Mike Jr. and Mike Sr. pounding in my raspberry posts.

Adam helping Papa hang my pantry door. Thanks Papa!
Aspen with her dressed up Zia. We made diapers, a tutu and skirts for Zia (Aspen's fav doll) for Aspen's birthday. Cathy did all the hard labor while I supervised. LOL Thanks Cathy for all your work. You can find the doll diaper pattern here. Papa "watching" conference

The great glasses Mike Sr. got to celebrate my birthday (Do you see my new haircut?)

Adam watching the "show" (the computer screen is actually bigger than our tv)

Thanks Nana and Papa for everything. It was such a joy to have you here!

Is it possible to give potty training the "its not you, its me" talk? Really its not Adam. I have a serious character flaw. I hate sitting with Adam on the potty for 20 minutes with nothing then a minute later having an accident. Is potty training this hard for everyone? My sister's kids practically potty trained themselves.
What am I doing wrong? I am giving up until after nana and papa come to visit. The rate I am going Adam is going to be 4 and in diapers. Do you have any suggestions? What do I do?
That being said, Adam is stinkin cute in underwear. He is also in the phase of putting everything on his head. Don't worry I have pictures to prove it. :)

Blue and Gold Banquet

I was in charge of the Blue and Gold banquet this year. We did a mystery dinner cub scout style! A mystery dinner is where you choose items on the menu like cub scout in a sleeping bag. Then you are served a corn dog. Everything is on the menu including silverware and everything gets cleared away after each course. The menu was created with cub scouts in mind. My brothers were awesome in helping me think of the items. Thanks guys! You can see the menu and the key here.
Microsoft Word - Blue and Gold Menu Selections

Microsoft Word - Menu Key

Mikel and his scouts came and served the cubs. The cubs loved being served by the older boys and the older boys got all the leftovers :).
The centerpieces were $1.00 buckets from Zurchers (a party supply store). I printed out the cubscout emblems and decoupaged them on with Modpodge.
Then I copied an idea from here and made sugar cookie lollipops. The original plan was to cut the sugar cookies out into the scout fleur de lis but I made the wrong recipe. Who knew there were sugar cookie recipes that you dont cut out.
This is our watering station. Its just water with lemons and blueberries. I used frozen blueberries and they turned the water purple. Next time I will go with fresh ones.
The Yellow rectangles at everyone's seat is where they wrote down their menu selections. We collected them by table and numbered them so we would know who to serve what to.

Between each course each den prepared a skit. Wolves went while we were getting the first course out, bears during the second and webelos during the third.

Happy Daylight Savings

Here are two casualties of the time change. :) I was on the other side, but someone has to take the picture. Mike and I laid down for a minute and Adam wanted in on it so he came and snuggled between us. After poking our faces and causing a little bit of mayhem he shut his eyes and was snoring in seconds. Don't I have handsome boys in my life!

Mike's New Job & Valenties Shirts

Mike starts his new job today. I am very excited because his commute goes from 1 hour to 10 minutes! Adam woke up today and Mike was still here so Adam asked him if we were going to church. Mike is now working as an accountant for a Consulting firm called Zenger Folkman. Mike is really excited because the people seem so nice.
Mike put in his notice at Summit on Jan 21 without any job prospects. The man has guts. After a lot of interviews Mike chose this one. I am really proud of him. He is such a hard worker. Funny side note. Yesterday was his last day at Summit and Mike stayed until 11pm to get the job done. Good for you honey! I love you!
While Mike was slaving his last day away, Brittani and I were up to some fun. She came over with Bee-Bah(Lindsay) and while Bee-bah and Adam played *cough*fought we had a blast creating.
Here are some pics of our adventures.
sorry the pics aren't the greatest. The chick one says Chicks Dig Me and the Lady Bug says Love Bug

Poor Neglected Blog

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! and everything else I missed :) Here is an update of the last 3 months (slacker I know)

November:
We had an expo every single week. Life got really hectic, but it was busy and good. Adam charmed everyone walking around the expos in his little tie. So cute! I would have awesome pictures to share, but my stupid computer deleted them. I accidentally left the card in and shut down. I guess it deletes everything on it.

December:
It was a whilrwind.
Some highlights were:
Nana and Papa visit for a week
Adam's 2nd birthday--pictures are all gone :(
Snow
Parties
Snow
Christmas
Snow

January:
Snow
Snow
more snow :)
making snowman, hot chocolate, going stir crazy in the house

Well thats about it. This weekend we have a show. Its the first after November's craziness. I am having flashbacks :). Other than that I am just having a great time playing with Adam, cleaning the house and what not. I know my life is super exciting!

I guess you need a Carter to get a Reagan

While I have a lot to say on the subject, I won't incite debate here.

Snow!

It snowed here. Its the first time the snow has actually stuck for a period of time this year. Adam LOVED it! I loved its because he loved it :). Here are some pictures of his cuteness.

Don't you love that snow suit! It reminds me of a Christmas Story "I can't put my arms down." He looks so cute and fat.
