Is it possible to give potty training the "its not you, its me" talk? Really its not Adam. I have a serious character flaw. I hate sitting with Adam on the potty for 20 minutes with nothing then a minute later having an accident. Is potty training this hard for everyone? My sister's kids practically potty trained themselves.
What am I doing wrong? I am giving up until after nana and papa come to visit. The rate I am going Adam is going to be 4 and in diapers. Do you have any suggestions? What do I do?
That being said, Adam is stinkin cute in underwear. He is also in the phase of putting everything on his head. Don't worry I have pictures to prove it. :)

Someone gave me a book called "Everybody Poops". It is totally gross but I guess it works for some kids.
What I have learned is that you just need to wait until they are ready. I held back with Garon and he was potty-trained before he was three and it only took a week. Also when you do potty train, make sure you are going to be home for the most part, much easier, the whole routine thing. Good Luck- Brisa is coming and I am not looking forward to it!!!!
Okay, that kid is adorable. I bet Brooke dotes on that kid day and night.

I hate potty training. Richard was 3 1/2 before he would do it. Audrey started making progress after a few days of her hanging out in the kitchen (on the linoleum) with no pants and sitting on the potty pretty much ALL DAY. However, she was not quite 2, so maybe he'll make progress faster. Give him something to do while sitting there so hopefully you don't have to. Then, once he has success, maybe he'll start figuring it out. However, if he's not ready (like Richard wasn't) then it's better to just wait. Like I said, I hate potty training. Good luck!
Okay, so I have one potty trained and I have been collecting ideas for Eddie, so here it goes!! Celeste didn't potty trained until the summer of her third birthday and she is pretty smart, so hang in there! It was suggested that for boys, they learn to do all their potty business sitting down, otherwise they don't want to do the big stuff because it will scare them. It was also suggested by someone else to get those targets or Cherrios for them to aim at. With this suggestion also came the idea to set them down so they are facing the back of the toilet so they can see as they are going potty. I think there are a few other things, but I can't think of them right now. At the moment we just offer the potty chair to Eddie, but this summer we are going to work on it when we are home and he can be naked, that's what we did with Celeste. My mother-in-law also says that she knew her kids were ready when they could tell you where all of their body parts were, so that's a thought also. (I think Eddie knows his body parts, but his favorite thing is to get a rise out of us when he won't answer, so I can't be sure!!) Love you - good luck!
Thanks guys! I really appreciate all the suggestions. Maybe I can do this :). Love to you all!
"Daddy" trained our boys! Dad took the boys in and they had a potty party for a day or two! The boys learned to stand in front of the potty chair...just like dad, or they'd "sit down on the job".
It's a guy thing! (He even trained the boys to clean up the rim of the toilet after they used it...I hope they still do that for their wives!:)
I hate potty training, too. The week I start potty training, my house gets neglected because I am too busy trying to keep my carpet from getting peed on. But don't stress too much over it. Boys tend to potty train later. And if he's not acting like he's ready, take a break for a few weeks and try again. My mom said that when she trained my brother, he had fun aiming for Cheerios in the toilet and that "game" helped motivate him. Good luck :)
